Ed Hughes: New Music Players present 50th birthday concert

The New Music Players marked founder and artistic director Ed Hughes's 50th birthday with a concert at the Warehouse in London featuring Ed's piano trio Media Vita (1991) and a major new 30' work 'Sinfonia' (2018) inspired by 15th and 16th century English vocal music. 

Anthony Payne: Third Quartet world premiere

The Villiers Quartet gave the world premiere performance of Anthony Payne's Fourth String Quartet at the Ripon Festival on 6 September 2018. They will perform the Quartet on tour in the UK - Leeds, Sheffield and Grimsby - and the US - San Diego - during winter 2018 and spring 2019. Full detials on Anthony Payne's website

Ed Hughes: Cuckmere: A Portrait at the Brighton Festival 5 and 6 May 2018

The Orchestra of the Sound and Light gave the premiere performance of 'Cuckmere: A Portrait' at the ACCA, University of Sussex in the chamber orchestra version (18 players). The Orchestra of Sound and Light Quintet gave the world premiere performance of the version the following day, forming the first half of a concert marking the culmination of two years of music and film workshops in East Sussex schools and colleges directed by Ed Hughes and filmmaker Cesca Eaton with the Orchestra of Sound and Light. John Casken: Kokoshka's Doll - Oxford and Newbury plus recording April 2018

Counterpoise and Sir John Tomlinson performed Casken's melodrama 'Kokoshka's Doll at the Wagner 1900 Conference at the University of Oxford and the Newbury Spring Festival in April 2018, followed by a recording for future release on Champs Hill Records. Further information here

New Music Players

The New Music Players took part in the University of Sussex's Tallis Festival in January 2018, performing new works inspired by Tallis by NMP Artistic Director Ed Hughes, NMP flautist Rowland Sutherland, plus Benjamin Oliver, Eleanor Clapp, Jason Hazael, Hugh Chambers, Lee Westwood and Oded Ben-Tal

Robert Saxton: Solo Piano CD released

Toccata Classics released a CD of Robert Saxton's Piano Music in March 2018, performed by pianist Clare Hammond. The CD includes Robert's piano cycle 'Hortus Musicae', written for Clare, and his Piano Sonata. Full details and extracts here.
